Evaluations

What is a Psychiatric Evaluation?

A psychiatric evaluation is a comprehensive assessment designed to diagnose emotional, behavioral, or developmental conditions or disorders.

During the initial evaluation, we will explore various factors, including your developmental history, medical history, family background, social and environmental influences, academic/work concerns, and emotional and cognitive strengths and weaknesses. This holistic approach helps create a complete picture of your mental health.
Our APRNs (Advanced Practice Registered Nurses) conduct evaluations for children, adolescents, and adults. In some cases, your therapist may recommend a psychiatric evaluation based on your symptoms and their understanding of what might help. These appointments are both informative and supportive, allowing you to discuss any concerns or fears about starting medication. Our providers believe in a well-rounded, holistic approach to care.

Psychiatric evaluations can be particularly helpful for:

-
Evaluating symptoms of depression that have changed or increased
-
Evaluating symptoms of OCD or overwhelming worry
-
Reviewing symptoms related to ADHD, such as difficulty focusing
-
Discussing symptoms of insomnia
-
Addressing postpartum anxiety and depression and exploring the best treatment options for you

While seeking a psychiatric evaluation may still carry some stigma for many, it’s important to remember that mental health is just as essential as physical health. Taking the step to evaluate your mental health is a courageous choice toward healing and well-being.
